The 2015 A “Night for the Children” Gala will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, September 17 at Memminger Auditorium. This year marks the 225th Anniversary of our founding as the Charleston Orphan House, and the special celebration will feature honorary chairs U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. and North Charleston Mayor R. Keith Summey. The Gala is the biggest fundraiser of the year in support of the Carolina Youth Development Center’s programs serving the community’s most vulnerable youth. Thanks to your generous support, the Carolina Youth Development Center raised $39,424 during Lowcountry Giving Day, a 24-hour online giving challenge where the gifts are met with an incentive from a local anonymous donor. Our pie-in-the-sky goal was $40,000, and we pretty much nailed that target because of you. Check out our blog to see how our 2015 Giving Day total compared to last year.

Caring for Children in the Lowcountry since 1790

Founded in 1790, Carolina Youth Development Center is an important part of Charleston’s historic and cultural heritage, a direct descendant of the Charleston Orphan House, America’s first publicly funded orphanage.

Today, CYDC provides programs reaching over 1200 children and youth locally each year. We care for young people with very serious problems, including physical and sexual abuse, neglect, abandonment, and severe emotional disorders.
