Callen-Lacey Center for Children is the only children's emergency shelter in Berkeley County. Callen-Lacey is open, every day throughout the year, providing shelter and treatment to local children, removed from their homes because of abuse and neglect. Carolina Youth Development Center manages two emergency shelters in the tri-county area, serving more than two hundred children annually.
