Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC),
I invite you to help make a difference in the life of a child.
As you may know, our
annual golf event (formerly associated with the Arby’s Charity Tour but now
known as the Big Brothers Big Sisters Golf Tournament) benefits our Big
Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) program of Carolina Youth Development Center.
This year’s event is our first-time “grass roots” effort to begin to build
our own tournament. Scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at the exclusive
Daniel Island Golf Club, it will be a fun day of golf, which includes box
lunches on the carts, a contest or two on the course, mulligans for sale,
and a short but lively reception, held immediately following the
tournament. This initial event is actually a low-cost, no-frills tournament
designed to set the stage for a large, elegant affair next year, and we hope
you will join us as “founding members” of what will become a new tradition
for BBBS of Carolina Youth Development Center!
BBBS
serves more than 300 tri-county children each year, ages 6-16, by offering
them the support of a positive relationship with a mentor (a Big Brother or
Sister). Through this relationship, a child has the opportunity to share new
experiences with an adult role model while developing and strengthening his
or her capacity to become a competent and caring adult. Young people who
participate in BBBS are less likely to be arrested or to use drugs, they
stay in school longer and earn better grades, and they get along better at
home and with their peers. The benefits of this nationally acclaimed
program are greatly needed in our local community!
